Loftia fishing: a listed proficiency capped at Level 5 in the demo, the fishing spots in Hanging Gardens, Kassim the fishing expert, and a community fish list.
Loftia Fishing Guide: Spots, Rods and the Fish You Can Catch
Quick answer: Loftia fishing is one of four official proficiency lines, alongside Farming, Crafting and Cooking, and every proficiency bar in the October 2026 Steam Next Fest demo stops at Level 5. The fishing water is not in the demo: the demo questline ends one district before Hanging Gardens, the peaceful floating island the Early Access page describes as full of "cozy fishing spots". That district opens with Early Access on November 3, 2026 at 1pm EST. Kassim, whose official occupation is Biodiversity Researcher and Fishing Expert, owns that line. No official fish index, drop rate or rod recipe exists, so every name below is community-compiled.
- Official: Fishing is a named proficiency, and the demo's Level 5 cap applies to it.
- Official: Hanging Gardens holds the fishing spots, arriving November 3, 2026.
- Community-compiled: the Collector Rod, four spot tiers, 28 species in seven bundles.
- Official: quest items drop from harvested resource nodes, and patch notes #1 raised that chance.
- Not disclosed: fish drop rates, spot counts, bait, timers, a level gate.
Where fishing sits in Loftia right now
Two official sentences decide the shape of this guide. The Early Access page says that in Early Access you can take your proficiencies "much further than the demo's Level 5 cap" and become better at activities "whether it's Farming, Crafting, Cooking, Fishing, or something else", then "choose which Perks to invest your points in". The demo page lists Farming, Decorating, Sharing, Salvaging, Adventures and Social.

Who to ask about fish: Kassim
Kassim is the resident the fishing line belongs to, and the official site gives him a title that does the matchmaking: Biodiversity Researcher and Fishing Expert. His official card calls him "Curious, sincere, and deeply driven by discovery, an applied researcher who trusts observation, experimentation, and data above all else". No other resident carries a fishing title.

A community quest database compiled from beta and demo data puts a Kassim quest called Field Research in Hanging Gardens, where he wants to map how Loftia's districts connect, asking you to complete Research Stations and gather field notes. In community data that is the mechanism the fish economy hangs on: species are research contributions that fill bundles, not collectibles. The full roster is in our NPC list.
The official site publishes his portrait and full-body art, but no demo source places him in Loftia City. The Hanging Gardens guide covers it.

The gear: the Collector Rod and four spot tiers
Everything here comes from community databases built on closed-beta and demo data, checked on October 22, 2026. Qloud Games has published no rod recipe, spot list or drop table, so treat the naming as community reading and the numbers as unconfirmed.
| Spot tier | What the community database lists it dropping | Respawn | Recorded spots |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common Fishing Spot | Garbage Ball, Salt, Haditha Cavefish | 30 s | 101 |
| Uncommon Fishing Spot | Salt, Blind Cave Eel, Texas Blind Salamander, Algae, Green Turtle and more | 30 s | 142 |
| Rare Fishing Spot | Salt, Blind Cave Brotula, Splendid Poison Frog, Leafy Sea Dragon, Southern Bluefin Tuna and more | 30 s | 98 |
| Ore Fishing Spot | Salt, Bauxite Ore, Copper Scraps | 30 s | 11 |
The in-game tooltip the database preserves for these spots reads "A fishing spot - cast your Collector Rod here", so casting is a tool action. The Ore tier is the odd one out: the only tier yielding materials.
| Rod | Listed ingredients | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Collector Rod | 5× Rattan, 5× Jute, Plastic Sheet (quantity not listed) | Tier one |
| Collector Rod Lv.2 | Collector Rod, 5× Carbon Fiber, 5× Vines, 2× Magnets | Tier two |
Carbon Fiber there is the input our crafting basics guide flags as unconfirmed.
Loftia's official known-issues list documents a real trap: items you own can sit invisible in your inventory until you open the tool wheel. Hold down R, or the gamepad button, and add the rod from there.

The fish list: 28 species, community-compiled
There is no official fish index for Loftia, and the developer has never published one. What exists is community databases that recovered species names and their in-game flavour text from beta and demo builds. Grouped by the research bundles attached to them, the catalogue runs to 28 named species plus two junk catches.
| Research bundle (community name) | Species listed | Shared trait |
|---|---|---|
| Anadromous Odyssey | Allis Shad, Atlantic Salmon, Atlantic Sturgeon, Rainbow Trout | Migrate fresh to salt water |
| Heavy-Weight Titans | Giant Sea Bass, Nassau Grouper, Seventyfour Seabream, Southern Bluefin Tuna | Deep-lake predators and giants |
| Murky Waters | Dalhousie Catfish, Moapa Dace, Red Handfish, Spring Pygmy Sunfish | Murky, plant-choked water |
| Masters of Disguise | Bia Goby, European Mudminnow, Leafy Sea Dragon, Splendid Toadfish | Camouflage specialists |
| Still Standing | Bahia Brain Coral, Ivell's Sea Anemone, Japanese Spiky Sea Cucumber, Sunflower Sea Star | Invertebrates, not fish |
| Land and Lake | Corroboree Frog, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Splendid Poison Frog | Reptiles and amphibians |
| Sightless Seekers | Blind Cave Brotula, Blind Cave Eel, Haditha Cavefish, Texas Blind Salamander | Sightless cave species |
Two rows explain why a straight fish count misleads. The database's taxonomy puts sea stars, anemones, coral and sea cucumbers in the same fishing namespace as trout, and treats frogs, turtles and cave salamanders as targets too, because the game's bundle names do. If you are chasing completion, the bundles are the checklist, not the word fish. The database also lists a "Garbage Ball" and a "Sewer Algae" as catches, so not every cast pays.
Memory records give the scale: Amateur Fisher for level 10, Expert Fisher for level 20, Hanging Gardens Fisher for every species.
The quest-item pattern: what patch notes #1 changed
Fishing is not only about eating. The official known-issues list carries a quest entry called Finding Scrambled Coordinate with a line that changes how you should fish: "Scrambled coordinates have a chance to drop from harvesting any resource node." Resource nodes are how the game calls gathering points, so a cast is one route to a quest item. Patch notes #1, published October 21, 2026, then tuned that route: "Clarified where to find Scrambled Coordinates for Ryder's quest and increased their drop chance during that quest step", and moved Bloom and Scrambled Coordinates behind Ryder's intro Adventure quest.

Be precise: the patch rebalanced quest-item drops, Scrambled Coordinates and Bloom. It said nothing about fish drop rates, because none has ever been published. Any fish drop-rate table circulating is extrapolation.
Don't Drop the Ball, and the official systems graphic
The official Beta guide published on Steam in April 2026 included a graphic listing twelve gameplay systems as the team expected them to be at Early Access. Fishing is one of the twelve, and so is a system with no official explanation: Don't Drop the Ball. Memory records give it a shape: a Season 0 memory for playing a round, and Champ and Pro badges for 50 and 200 points.

Fishing on a controller
Two official claims cover the same product. The FAQ says Loftia is "fully playable with controller / gamepad, in addition to keyboard and mouse, and also supports the Steam Deck". The Steam store listing categorises it as Partial Controller Support. The known-issues list holds the gaps: settings navigation on gamepad needs the D-Pad, and you cannot quit from the login.

FAQ
Can you fish in the Loftia demo? The demo ends before Hanging Gardens, where the official fishing spots are. A demo player on Steam on October 20, 2026 complained of "two hours of non stop grind to not even get fishing", ambiguous between fishing being gated behind early progression and fishing being unreachable in the demo at all. Assume it arrives November 3, 2026.
What is the maximum Fishing level? Level 5 in the demo, a demo restriction rather than the design ceiling. Memory records for Amateur Fisher at level 10 and Expert Fisher at level 20 suggest how far the line runs, but none is published.
Where do I fish in Early Access? Hanging Gardens, described officially as a peaceful floating island on the edges of Loftia City, filled with greenery, cozy fishing spots, community farms and a dark forest. Community databases place every recorded spot there; Herb is its caretaker.
Is there an official list of fish and where to catch them? No. There is no official fish index, drop table or spot map. The 28 species names and four spot tiers above come from community databases built on closed-beta and demo data, checked on October 22, 2026, and can be wrong.
Do quest items drop from fishing? The official known-issues list says Scrambled coordinates have a chance to drop from harvesting any resource node, and patch notes #1 raised their drop chance during Ryder's quest step. No fish-specific rate is official.
